Career and Technology Studies (CTS) is a program which offers Alberta students opportunities to develop technology-related skills, enhance employability skills and develop skills that can be applied to careers, the workplace or further education. Each credit earned in the CTS program requires about 20-25 hours to complete.

Courses

3 Credits

Explore beyond the textbook in this hands-on interactive course! Learn how to grow plants indoors and outdoors using a variety of strategies including traditional gardening with soil and hydroponics.

Students learn foundational, multidisciplinary experience in visual communication, graphic design, and printing techniques. Using these foundations, students explore their own ideas and creativity to create personally relevant designs.

Computer Science 10

Want to write computer programs? Use 5.js library of JavaScript programming language is used to develop skills to design algorithms and program a robot using Lego EV3.



Computer Science Principles 20 AP
5 credits

Level 20 builds on the concepts solving more complex problems and explores different programming languages. The Computer Science AP program offers two AP exams (refer to the AP page in this program).



Computer Science A 30 AP

The Computer Science AP program offers two AP exams (refer to the AP page in this program). The 30 level course can be used as a 30-level science credit for admission to many post secondary institutions.

Hands-on classes help students develop their woodworking skills. In Construction Technologies, there are 46 possible courses, from wood turning to cabinet making.

The Cosmetology courses cover modules from the Alberta Hairstyling Apprenticeship Program. These include hairstyling, up-dos, colouring, cutting and client services.

Designed to prepare students to be successful in the food service industry. Training in a commercial style kitchen mentored by Red Seal chefs! Once completing the 2 year course, students may challenge their first year Alberta Apprenticeship Cook Technical Training.

Students develop an understanding of the design process and how to use their creativity and imagination to generate innovative and thoughtful 2-D and 3-D design solutions using both drawing and computer-aided design.

Fashion students will learn basic techniques to create clothing and accessories. Intermediate students work with specialty fabrics and create more advanced projects. Advanced students learn about couture fashion while creating more student directed projects.

The foods program is a practical course that will teach students the fundamentals of cooking and baking. Some of the topics covered include baking, meat cookery, soups and sauces, International cuisine and food presentation.
