Thank you for your interest in attending Paul Kane High School.

We are very proud of the strong tradition of academic excellence in our school and invite you to submit an application to the International Student Program.  We are selective and hope to attract strongly motivated young people interested in developing their academic skills through provincially approved Alberta curriculum.  We open our doors to international students to increase multicultural understanding and strengthen ties among countries.

St. Albert is a unique community.  It is a family-oriented residential city minutes north of the provincial capital of Edmonton.  With a population of approximately 56,000 people, St. Albert offers all the conveniences of a large city yet the safety and warmth of a small city.  International students placed with carefully screened families are monitored on a regular basis to ensure positive living experiences while studying in Canada.  The security of international students is a priority of our program.

Do You Need Help Learning English?

English as a Second Language courses and tutoring support are offered at Paul Kane High School so students can meet their English language goals.  The ESL classroom is a warm and inviting meeting place for all international students.  The international student advisor/ESL teacher is located within the classroom giving all students opportunities to access support.

ESL Courses are designed for students requiring systematic instruction in English reading, writing, speaking and listening to meet the English demands of academic and option courses.

  • The Government of Alberta allows students to take 3 full credit courses of ESL to earn a maximum of 15 credits toward graduation diploma requirements.  One full course is over 6 ½ hours of instruction per week.
  • ESL classes are delivered in a small and friendly class of approximately   5 - 10 students so there is opportunity for lively and educational discussion on topics related to Canadian culture, geography, history, government and everyday life.
  •  More advanced English learners who require help with their academic courses but not ESL courses are provided with assistance or tutoring when required. This can be help with Social Studies and English course work, or studying for the iBT TOEFL examination.

A customized educational program is designed to meet the goals for each student, whether you are here for 3 months or 3 years!
